Exterior House Painting Slipups to Watch Out For

Painting a house by yourself is a great way to spend time, especially if you’ve got a tight budget to maintain. But, painting is an art, and if you’ve got it wrong, then you might just have to spend double. Even professional painters in Chicago can sometimes go wrong. Here we tell you about the most common slipups to watch out for when painting house interiors.
Painting the exterior of your house may be a great way to rejuvenate yourself; and, of course, with that you get to change the look of the house as per your whims and fancies. But, if you’re an amateur, there’s a tendency of making a blunder at the first attempt. So, here’s a guideline of all the slipups that you must avoid while painting your home—

1) Choice of Paint

It’s your house, so you do have all the freedom to choose the colors you feel like; but having said that, we really would urge you to choose a color that’s sober, nice, heat and weather proof and which lasts for a long time. What you can do is, instead of picking up colors just on the basis of the paper samples, you can buy testers and brush them on a smaller region to see if it goes well with the exterior of your house. By choosing the right color, you not only make the appearance better but also lessen the frequency of repaint and increase the resale value of your house as well!

2) Prepare the Surface Properly

Exterior or Interior painting, painting contractors in Old Town will tell that you cannot just start painting your house just like that—your canvas needs to be prepared properly. What we mean to say is that you should wash the surface properly, take out the remnants of the old paint and wash the surface again with trisodium phosphate. After that, you must apply primer to the whole area. Remember, priming the surface is a very important job while painting your house.

3) Don’t Ignore the Weather

You must never start painting your house during the rainy season—a sudden downpour can not only wash off all the paint, but also damage the uncoated walls severely besides wasting a whole day’s labor. Even too much of direct sunlight can cause peeling and damage. So, the best option is to choose a dry and cool weather when there’s much lesser possibility of a downpour while painting your house!

4) Use Good Equipment and Techniques

Unidirectional painting and use of cheap and inappropriate rollers and brushes can go a long way to make your first DIY painting a massacre. And, if you’re in love with the color, don’t be ecstatic and go overboard in using all of the color in one stroke. Too much of color can lead to clumps and runs which could damage the whole effort. And, never do everything all on your own—ask help from your friends or family members, if you don’t want any help from any mason or contractor!

5) Don’t Paint the 2nd Coat Soon Enough

After you’ve successfully painted your first coat, wait a while; give it enough time to set in, before going ahead to put another coat. You must never be in haste while painting your house—it’s an expert job which must be done with adequate care!
