Short Guide on Painting Fireplaces

Is that age-old, red brick fireplace ruining the elegance of your living room?  Just repaint it in décor style and make it the centerpiece to your living space.
Painting your brick fireplace is simple DIY task that anyone accomplish in just free hours. Most Masonry contractors also offer painting services, but if you want to try your hand at it, note down the following steps and you should be able to do it.
Step 1:
Before initiating with painting, ensure that all fireplace surroundings are protected with appropriate coverings.
Use plastic or cloth coverings to protect the fireplace from spills of water, paint or spatters.
Step 2:
Use sandpaper (approximately 80 grit) and clean fireplace bricks from any sort of loose mortar. Now wash the bricks using a cleaning solution made from warm water and liquid soap.
In case, the brick has persistent dirt deposits, you will need a wire brush to remove them.
Step 3:
Once the bricks are washed, let them dry for some time and by that time make other important preparations.
After drying, use a paint roller to apply masonry primer on the surface. However, ensure that you paint it with smooth and even strokes.
For minor mortar filling, use smaller paint brush and allow them to dry with respect to the entire surface.
Step 4:
Before you begin, ensure that you provide ample time and allow the surface to dry out completely.
Once the surface is dry, apply latex paint on the surface and similar to primer coat, the paint should be smooth and have even strokes.
Step 5:
Identical to primer coat, the surface should be covered with a roller and for minor fillings use smaller brush size.
Let the first latex paint coat dry and then repeat the whole step for the second coat. Once the second coat dries, your fireplace will be ready to use with an attractive finish.
