1. Latex Vs Alkyd Paints

Traditionally alkyd paints were used for painting the interiors and exteriors. They were believed to be best suited for trimmings and especially for the exteriors. But recent studies have shown that they emit VOC or volatile organic compounds that are a health hazard and also cause pollution. Although, paint companies have come out with new VOC free alkyd paints, they are not very effective when compared to latex paints.

2. Cost of Latex and Alkyd Paints

The new age VOC free alkyd paints have reported to dry very slowly and are difficult to apply. They are also very expensive when compared to latex paints. Painting contractors in Chicago are of the opinion that after comparison of the two, high quality latex paint will give better results than alkyd paints.

3. Kinds of Latex Paints

There are three kinds of latex paints in the market today –
• The 100% acrylic paint is usually used for a high quality finish for the interiors
• The Vinyl acrylic is the least expensive latex paint in the market but can be used for interior walls, where quality is not an issue
• The alkyd modified paint is best suited for the exteriors and it gives a very high quality finish.
